Rob Bell concludes 2019 British GT season with victory
15th September 2019
British racing driver Rob Bell signed off the 2019 British GT championship in fine fashion, with a dominant performance throughout the entire weekend at Donington Park, taking pole position and the first win of the season. The lights-to-flag victory secured Rob and Balfe Motorsport teammate Shaun Balfe 3rd in the GT3 driver championship, and a first win for the McLaren 720S GT3 on home soil.
Rob arrived at the #DoningtonDecider season finale with determination for a strong result at a season-high having come tantalising close to the first win of the year during the last race at Brands Hatch. Rob and Shaun topped the timesheets in both the Pro and Am qualifying sessions to secure a second consecutive pole position with the #22 720S GT3. From the front of the grid, Shaun pulled away from the field during the opening half of the race and never looked back. Despite a brief Safety Car period bringing the pack back together, Shaun showed strong pace and managed the pace to the chasing pack before handing over to Rob for the final sprint to the finish.
Rob then drove a solid and relatively drama-free stint for the final 60 minutes of the 2019 British GT season, and continued the dominant display seen throughout the weekend. Despite being at the front of the field throughout the race, Rob was kept honest until he saw the chequered flag with a busy track, slower lapping traffic and a relentless chasing pack, but the long-standing McLaren Factory Driver had the honour of crossing the line to secure the first victory on home soil for the new 720S GT3.
Despite a challenging start to the year which saw the Bell-Balfe partnership fail to score until the fourth race, a string of strong and consistent results sees the pair end the season 3rd in the GT3 driver championship.
