British GT return for Rob Bell with Fox Motorsport
17th May 2022
Rob Bell will make a one-off British GT appearance this season as the championship heads to Donington Park for round 3. Rob will race the Fox Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3 alongside Nick Halstead, acting as stand-in to the team’s regular Pro driver, Jamie Stanley, who is unable to race due to family commitments.
The 2022 race season has so far seen Rob competing in the full Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS campaign, having raced with McLaren for the past 10 years. This latest addition to his calendar will see a further UK event added to the calendar, having scored double top-10 finishes at the Sprint rounds at Brands Hatch earlier this month with the JOTA-entered 720S GT3. The confirmation with Fox Motorsport sees Rob return to racing in the British GT championship for the first time since entering the 2020 season finale, while his last race at Donington Park saw him claim victory to secure 3rd in the championship standings in 2019.
Fox Motorsport has been a member of the McLaren Customer Racing family since 2021, successfully running with the 570S GT4 in the British GT championship. This season has seen the pair graduate to the 720S GT3 with Nick and Jamie immediately on the pace, scoring a podium at the opening round at Oulton Park before a 7th-place finish against a bumper grid of 35 cars at the headline Silverstone 500 event.
Rob Bell –
“I’m looking forward to being back in British GT and to joining Fox Motorsport for Donington. The grid is as strong as it’s ever been in terms of numbers and quality, so it’s an exciting time to jump back in. The last time I raced at Donington in British GT was in 2019 and I won with the McLaren 720S GT3, so it’s definitely one of my favourites. I’ve met Nick a few times and was very impressed to see him on the podium at Oulton Park in his first race in the GT3 - he’s had a very strong rise through the ranks to get to where he is now. Let’s see what we can do. Obviously, I’ll be looking to help Fox finish as high up as possible, and seeing what the team has achieved in the first couple of events, there’s no reason not to aim high.”
Rob’s return to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship will be for round 4 of the calendar, and the first visit of the year to Donington Park. The race weekend takes place 28-29 May and will be streamed live on britishgt.com and via the SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
