McLaren GT factory driver, Rob Bell, heads down under to Bathurst in Australia to make his debut in the Bathurst 12 Hours, the blue-riband event of Australian sportscar endurance racing.
 
Rob joins Australian team, Tekno Autosport for this prestigious race, sharing one of the team’s two McLaren 650S GT3 cars with Tekno Autosport regular driver, Will Davison, and McLaren Young Driver Programme racer, Andrew Watson.
 
Rob says of his trip to the famed Bathurst track, set in the Blue Mountains area close to Sydney, “I’m definitely going to be ticking off another track of my world circuits bucket list with this trip. It’s such an iconic track and probably the most famous race in Australia, so I’m really pleased to get the chance to race there.  I’m joining a very professional team for this event too, and the McLaren 650S GT3 is already a proven winner. “
 
Rob travels to Australia less then two weeks after helping Clearwater Racing take the Asian Le Mans Series championship title last month. The Lancashire-based driver is keen to continue with his early 2016 success, saying,
 
“I’ve built up a lot of experience with the 650S and I know it has the capabilities to be a race winner, so it would be great to follow on my Asian Le Mans Series title with another victory. I also know just how hard it is to win an endurance event, so I’m not underestimating the challenge ahead. With Will and Andrew sharing the car, I think we’ll be a formidable trio and should be contenders for the podium.”
 
Of Bathurst Rob adds, “I’ve heard allsorts about the place. It will certainly be the first time I’ve been to a driver briefing when you are warned about kangaroos on the track. It is also known for its extreme weather, with desert heat, tropical rain and snow all a potential feature at Bathurst – and apparently, possibly all in one race! And if I take the start, it will be the earliest I’ve ever started a race, as the green flag flies at 5.45 in the morning.”
 
The Tekno Autosport team will field two cars in the Bathurst 12 Hours, which starts on Friday 5th Feb. The race starts at 05.45 local time, with international television coverage live on bathurst12hours.com.au.
